Risk Assessment in Healthcare and its Importance
Published by Eunomia Pharma Services · Updated
What is risk assessment in healthcare and why does it matter?
It is the structured process of identifying, analysing and evaluating risks to patient safety, regulatory compliance, reputation or operations. It asks what could go wrong, how likely it is and what the impact would be. It helps align activities with codes such as EFPIA and ABPI, protects data, and prioritises resources.
Building blocks
- Identify risks across promotion, HCP engagement, data and disclosure.
- Rate likelihood and impact consistently.
- Assign owners and mitigations to the highest risks.
- Review the assessment when the business changes.
The practical steps above are Eunomia’s operational guidance. See the source notes below for the scope of the external references.
Sources and scope
- Ministry of Justice: Bribery Act 2010 guidance
UK guidance on adequate procedures to prevent bribery; it is not a healthcare-specific checklist.
- Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR)
The EU General Data Protection Regulation, which governs processing of personal data, including HCP and patient data.
